Spekul is the caving club of the University of Leuven, Belgium. We have more than 50 members. Amongst them not only students, but also lots of non-students.
We go caving almost every week - sometimes more than three groups are caving at the same time - in different caves, different countries. There are quite a lot of caves in Belgium, at least enough to practice the art of caving and to stay tuned. Since Belgian caves are not amongst the world's largest (the deepest Belgian cave is less than 150m deep), we often go to France, England, Spain, or other European countries.
We also explore new caves in Austria, Spain and more exotic countries as Lebanon and Vietnam. You'll find more about our findings on the expedition website.
Want to learn caving?
Every Wednesday evening at 8pm we give caving instructionfor the University Sports Center in the old Gymnasium of the KUL. (Building G on this map) This training is for university students and personnel but anybody with a KUL Sports Card (or day pass) may take part.
If you want to try caving, come along to the first lessons of each semester. (Dates are advertised in the Sport booklet of the university or email the committee). After a couple of lessons we organize Sunday trips to Belgian caves for beginners. After a few caves you'll know for sure if caving is for you.
- Don't miss the first lessons, the later you join, the harder it is to catch up.
- You must have a Sport Card (or day pass)
If you already have SRT experience then you can join our activities at any time of the year.
